Marshall,
I can already see you opening this letter and I think it would be a safe bet that you're frustrated. It's most likely that I'm not there and even after trying you weren't able to get to sleep or you haven't gotten tired yet in the first place. I know that you sometimes have trouble and that you just have to ride it out but I always want to do anything in my power to help you through it. I always want you to be well rested and happy.
So, I want you to follow these instructions. No switching them around, either.
1. You'll notice that I placed some tea bags in the envelope (yes, I made them into little hearts, shut up). I want you to make some hot tea, not cold. I made the tea myself and it's all stuff that you like with some chamomile.
2. Once you've downed your tea I want you to go take a long, hot shower. Try your best not to think about anything but the water, how it feels on your shoulders, what it sounds like hitting the shower floor, how the steam fills up the bathroom and makes everything warm.
3. Dry off and get into your favorite sweatpants.
4. Plug your laptop into the wall and put the memory stick included in this envelope into it. Plug in a set of small speakers so that you can hear it better. Start the playlist I made for you.
5. Turn your phone down (no alarm allowed, I mean it). Turn off all the lights. Crawl into bed.
6. Listen to the music and imagine that I've just crawled into bed with you. Thank about what it feels like when I rub your back, when I work the tension out of your shoulders after a long day, when I knead your neck before dragging my nails lightly over your scalp. Keep thinking about it and try to shut everything else out.
I hope you're able to get some sleep, baby.
I love you,
Skylar
